Overview

Visor allows you to import data from your connections to avoid the data entry step and get right to shaping your data stories for yourself, team, and stakeholders..

In this article, we’l take a look at what import capabilities you’ll find in Visor.

  1. Importing from multiple projects with different issue types
    1. Use custom JQL for a resolution
  2. Can I have more than one Jira connection in a workbook?

Importing Jira Issues

There’s a couple of different ways to quickly import Jira Issues into Visor.

Let’s take a look at both methods:

Import a single Jira project (using the basic importer)

This one’s the easiest path you’ll come across (go ahead, we’ll wait for you to test out our competitors). If you oversee one project at a time (or just care about managing only one in Visor), we recommend using our basic Jira importer.

Heads up! If you’re creating a new workbook, you’ll come across this feature while adding a Jira Connection during onboarding.

Import while adding a new Jira Connection

  1. Open the Connections menu
  2. If no connections exist, then pick Jira Software
    1. Otherwise, click on the + icon in the left-side bar first, and then pick Jira Software
  3. Pick all the fields you want to link
  4. Pick the project you’d like to import Issues from
  5. Optionally apply filters on issue type, status, and/or created date
  6. Preview the Jira issues targeted for your import
  7. Choose whether to maintain or ignore nesting from Jira
  8. Proceed to import your Jira Issues!

Import from an existing Jira Connection without default import filters configured

  1. Open the Connections menu
  2. Make sure that the Jira icon connection is selected in the left-side bar
  3. Click on Sync & Import
  4. Click on Configure Default Import Filters
  5. Repeat steps 4 - 8 above

Import from an existing Jira Connection with default import filters configured

  1. Open the Sync & Import menu
  2. Click on Import for your Jira connection

Pro tip! You can still import from multiple Jira projects using the basic importer. After completing an import, you can revisit Import from an existing Jira Connection and select a different Jira Project.

Heads up! Default import filters are configured for the Jira connection in the workbook. If you collaborate with other teammates in your workbook, make sure to confirm you’re targeting the right Jira issues by looking at the preview. If something seems off, you’ll have the option to edit default import filters from there.

Import multiple Jira projects (using the advanced JQL importer)

We get it. You oversee various projects in Jira, and no one has time to manually pull in individual Jira Issues from one project. If this sounds familiar to you, then you’ll benefit from using the advanced Jira Query Language (JQL) importer.

Import from a Jira Connection using the advanced JQL importer

  1. Open the Connections menu
  2. Make sure that the Jira icon connection is selected in the left-side bar
  3. Click on Sync & Import
  4. Click on Configure Default Import Filters
  5. Click on Switch to JQL
  6. Type or paste in your query (which can include multiple project keys)
  7. Preview the Jira issues targeted for your import
  8. Proceed to import your Jira Issues!

Pro tip! If you aren’t familiar with writing JQL queries, you can generate one in Jira by: 1. clicking into Jira’s the search bar and hitting the Enter / Return key 2. selecting all the filter options to target the Issues you want to import into Visor 3. clicking Switch to JQL 4. copying the query from Jira and pasting it into the JQL importer in Visor

Ready to try this in Visor?
